Purdy's Wharf Complex
Purdy’s Wharf Developments
1990
Numerous BMR properties dot the Halifax waterfront and the city skyline, most notably the Purdy’s Wharf Complex. Stretching into the harbour, Purdy’s Wharf consists of two multi-storey office towers, the Xerox building, a parkade, connecting pedways and a restored wharf.
In addition to the challenge of erecting the towers over water, the first 50-70 feet of the harbour floor contained random, un-compacted fill – a setting that demanded strict investigation and evaluation. To this end, BMR created a three-dimensional electronic model of the towers, including foundations, fill and underlying bedrock. This enabled us to assess the structural requirements and variables imposed by the unique site, a critical step in moving forward with the project.
