Year Completed:
2025

Completed in 2025 with our partners at Architecture49 and HDR Architecture, BMR was the lead structural consultant on this 50,000 square foot laundry and central utility plant supporting the adjacent new hospital and surrounding local health care infrastructure. Part of the new Northside Health Centre located in North Sydney, NS, the laundry/CUP facility includes industrial-scale laundry production, office & maintenance space, utility plant equipment, loading zones, and a state-of-the-art biomass heating system that serves the entire Northside facility.

This challenging, post-disaster building structure required careful coordination with the entire design team as well as with specialty suppliers and contractors. It included large concrete retaining walls integrated into the building foundations, structural steel exhaust stack towers, reinforced concrete biomass pit structure, long-span steel structures for large, open spaces, and a carefully detailed roof structure that can be removed and reinstalled for future equipment maintenance. BMR’s services included design engineering from schematic to construction document phases as well as construction administration services from tender to project close-out.
