Projected to be completed in 2023 with our partners at JONO Developments and Harvey Architecture, The Trinity is a mixed-use high-rise development located in Downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia. This challenging project features a 21-story residential tower and 9 story hotel tower all over a street-level podium slab and four levels of underground parking. In addition, the project features street-level retail and restaurant space, rooftop terraces, and a rooftop mechanical penthouse. Among the building’s unique design features are a series of exterior, tall concrete columns located near the main podium entrance that support a portion of the upper residential tower.

The building frame is constructed of reinforced concrete, which includes all suspended floor slabs, foundation system, columns, and shearwalls. The nature of the site and building design presented challenges on several fronts. Bedrock was blasted and removed for nearly every level below grade, which then required the installation of permanent rock anchors to support the rock faces prior to beginning new foundation work. The natural slopes at street level required careful coordination with the design team to achieve the various floor elevations within the structural podium slabs.  BMR’s services included concept design, detailed structural design, construction document production, and tender & construction administration.
