Dalhousie University - Collaborative Health Education Building

Client:
Dalhousie University
Year Completed:
2015

Completed in 2015 with our partners at Dalhousie University, the Collaborative Health Education Building consists of a new, five-story, 107,000 square foot building located at the corner of Summer Street and University Avenue in Halifax, NS.  This state-of-the-art educational facility houses the Kellogg Health Sciences Library Learning Commons, various active learning classrooms, seminar rooms for the use of all health sciences disciplines, as well as the Centre for Collaborative Clinical Learning and Research. The structural frame consists of a combination of reinforced concrete slabs and shearwalls at the lower levels and structural steel building frames at the upper levels.  A new elevated structural steel pedway connects the CHEB building to the adjacent Sir Charles Tupper Medical Building.  The team at BMR was up to the challenge of designing within a tight, university campus construction site that connected to the existing adjacent structure at multiple locations.

BMR’s services included design development, structural design and preparation of construction documents, detailed structural specifications, as well as tender & construction administration.
